Robert,

You are correct. PBS Professional is a relatively low cost building block for creating an HPC infrastructure. It can be part of a cluster, a grid, or a cloud -- depending of course on your definition of those terms.

You are also correct in using the term "explore". There is no one-size-fits-all solution, and depending on the details of your situation there are many different possibilities.

Hello Dale,

I work in IT in the defense industry. Utilizing cloud resourses in the public domain is not an option. Major US Defense budget cuts have flowed down to the industry. We are being pushed to deliver more IT services for a lot less cost.

A few years ago, I implemented a local cluster solution using your software. For various reasons unrelated to the Altair software, the solution was under utilized, and I retired the system last year. The business has resurrected their desire for a high performance computing solution to support FEA, CFD, and Survivability analysis.

It looks like PBS Pro has evolved to support more system design options, including the possibility of using idle Windows based workstation resources distributed across our local network. I have heard this described as a grid computing solution.

Have I read the Altair product support information correctly? Do I have a relatively low cost HPC option to explore?
